Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Building Inspector to join our team at the City of Sacramento, CA. As a Building Inspector, you will be responsible for ensuring that buildings and structures are constructed and maintained in compliance with local, state, and national building codes and regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct inspections of buildings and structures to ensure compliance with building codes and regulations
  • Review plans and specifications for building projects to ensure compliance with building codes and regulations
  • Issue permits and certificates of occupancy for building projects
  • Enforce building codes and regulations through education and enforcement
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders to resolve building code issues
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in a related field preferred
  • Minimum of one year of experience in building inspection or a related field
  • Knowledge of building codes and regulations, including the International Building Code (IBC) and the International Residential Code (IRC)
  • Ability to read and interpret building plans and specifications
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certification as a Building Inspector or Plans Examiner
  • Experience with building inspection software and technology
  • Knowledge of local, state, and national building codes and regulations
