Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Train Conductor to join our Operations team at CPKC. As a key member of our railway operations, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient movement of trains across our network.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate train movements and switching operations in rail yards
  • Monitor and respond to signals and other indications affecting train movement
  • Provide clear and concise instructions to crew members via radio
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of and follow General Code of Operating Rules (GCOR), general orders and bulletins
  • Respond to emergency situations and operate fire extinguishers as well as apply first aid techniques
Requirements
  • High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED) required
  • Valid driver's license required
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work, including walking up to 10 kilometers a day on uneven ground
  • Excellent focus, attention to detail and ability to multitask
  • Strong communication skills

Training and Development

CPKC provides comprehensive training and development programs to ensure our employees have the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in their roles. As a Train Conductor, you will receive 16 weeks of paid in-class and field training, including instruction on safety practices, rules and operations.

Medical Requirements

As a safety-critical position, successful candidates will be required to complete a pre-employment medical that includes a physical, vision, hearing, alcohol, and drug audit assessment. Pre-employment qualification drug test(s) are also required.

Background Investigations

The successful candidate will need to successfully complete the following clearances: criminal history check, education verification, and driver's license verification.
