POSITION: PROCESS ENGINEER

At Alterra Energy, we are revolutionizing this narrative by transforming plastics back into their fundamental components, enabling the production of new plastics and other valuable materials. Our mission is to change perceptions about plastic waste, showcasing its potential for renewal and sustainability.

The Process Engineer will play a pivotal role in delivering engineering solutions for the innovation and implementation of our unique thermal liquefaction technology. This position offers the chance to take on leadership responsibilities as we aim to be the leading provider of ISCC Plus certified pyrolysis products. The role involves developing engineering outputs and offering technical support to both the project development team for new facilities and the commercial team for technology licensing opportunities throughout the project lifecycle. This is a full-time, exempt position.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee, execute, and/or assess all components of a Process Design Package (PDP), which includes but is not limited to:
    • Basis of Design
    • Material and Energy Balances
    • Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs)
    • Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
    • Process Equipment List
    • Equipment data sheets
    • Utility Summary
    • Process Control Narrative
    • Instrument List
    • Line and Valve List
    • Relief Load Summary
  • Gain insights into the process technology through hands-on plant operations and mentorship from our engineering team.
  • Provide technical expertise during project engineering and safety evaluations, including PFD and P&ID reviews, model assessments, and hazard analyses.
  • Contribute innovative ideas for future technological advancements aimed at minimizing capital and operational expenditures for new facilities.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders throughout all project phases, from feasibility studies to startup and commissioning.
  • Offer on-site construction, startup, and commissioning technical and operational support.
  • Enhance the workflow for deploying our technology.
  • Support the commercial team with process-related technical assistance.
  • Maintain effective communication with the engineering team and all project stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemical Engineering.
  • Strong technical and practical engineering skills with a proven ability to deliver high-quality work on schedule.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in engineering design or capital projects, with a focus on PSM regulated facilities.
  • A solid understanding of process engineering principles, including:
    • Process Simulation
    • PFD & P&ID development
    • Hydraulic Calculations
    • Process Vessel Sizing
    • Overpressure analysis and relief load calculations
  • Familiarity with industry standards, specifications, codes, and regulations.
  • Experience with process modeling software such as Aspen+, HYSYS, or ChemCAD.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD; experience with Plant 3D is advantageous.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a strong sense of accountability.
  • Willingness to travel up to 20% as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in engineering capital projects within the chemical, petrochemical, or oil and gas sectors.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience on multidisciplinary capital projects.
  • Basic knowledge of other engineering disciplines.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer.
  • Capability to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally.
Salary Range

$90,000-$130,000, based on experience and expertise.
