Senior Project Engineer

Burns & McDonnell, a 100% employee-owned company, is seeking a Senior Project Engineer to lead a team responsible for the design of complex transmission line projects.
The ideal candidate will have 7 years of related transmission line design experience and a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering. A Professional Engineering license (PE) is also required.
The Senior Project Engineer will provide technical leadership, direction, and support for an overhead transmission design team on projects ranging from 69kV to 500kV. This includes mentoring, coaching, and developing team members, as well as serving as the primary technical point of contact for the client.
The successful candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, and experience in scheduling and budgeting. Proficiency with PLS-CADD and PLS-POLE is also preferred.
This is a full-time position with 20% travel required. The ideal candidate will be based in the Akron, Columbus, or St. Louis offices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide technical leadership, direction, and support for an overhead transmission design team on projects ranging from 69kV to 500kV.
- Mentor, coach, and develop team members.
- Serve as the primary technical point of contact for the client.
- Implement quality control processes.
- Participate in development of project schedule, scope, budget, staffing planning, and construction planning.
- Responsible for effective communication and management of change orders.
- Lead coordination and communication of project requirements and schedule needs across disciplines within the project team.
- Responsible for effective communication with clients, project team, and other engineering disciplines.
- Identify and communicate technical risks associated with projects.
- Oversight of production work required to meet deliverable milestones.
- Identify, develop, and communicate processes and tools to increase efficiency across team and department.
- Apply expert knowledge of commonly used transmission concepts, practices, codes, and procedures within the transmission engineering services industry.
- Apply knowledge and experience to complex projects, find non-standard design solutions.
- Create, improve, facilitate, and teach training courses to the project team and department.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external clients as well as provide technical leadership, guidance, and instruction to project teams.
- Responsible for ensuring customer satisfaction goals and expectations are met.
- Responsible for compliance with company and site safety policies.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited program.
- 7 years related transmission line design experience (completion of master's degree in a related field may be substituted for one year of experience).
- Professional Engineering license (PE).
- Ability to effectively lead project teams. Experience with leading the discipline design for large projects and delegating work tasks to team members. Ability to lead execution of work and resolve issues in a team environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience in scheduling and budgeting.
- Proficiency with PLS-CADD and PLS-POLE.
- Consulting or utility experience preferred.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications.
