Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Recreational Therapist Specialist to join our team at the University of Maryland Medical System. As a key member of our rehabilitation services team, you will play a critical role in delivering exceptional care to our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver Recreational Therapy Services: Evaluate patient needs, develop treatment plans, and provide direct recreational therapy services to patients in accordance with generally accepted recreational therapy standards and departmental policies.
  • Lead and Develop Team Members: Assist leadership with interviewing, orienting, training, and supervising rehabilitation services staff. Contribute to performance evaluations and handle corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with Leadership: Identify gaps and opportunities for program development, performance improvement, and strategic organizational initiatives. Assist leadership in resolving complex clinical and operational issues.
  • Ensure Quality Care: Ensure interdisciplinary, safe, patient-centered care and deliver excellent customer service.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience: 5 years of relevant experience required.
  • Certifications: Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist and current ACLS or BCLS certification.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Advanced Knowledge: Proficient advanced knowledge of TR theory and practice techniques, as well as general knowledge of orthopedics, pediatrics, neurology, psychology, psychiatry, anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, general medicine, and the TR treatment implications of each.
  • Leadership Skills: Ability to oversee and direct the work of assigned staff, assign work priorities, audit work quality, orient and train, and assist in implementing corrective action, appropriately, with little direction.
