Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct all technical procedures related to grossing using various laboratory materials and equipment.
  • Ensure the integrity of specimens upon arrival and throughout the entire processing phase.
  • Document a gross description for each specimen, detailing anatomical site, size, color, weight, dimensions, count, volume, cut techniques, abnormal findings, and prepare tissue for cassettes.
  • Refer complex specimens to a Grossing Tech II, Supervisor, or Pathologist as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed.
  • Prepare dissected tissue specimens and place them into cassettes.
  • Implement Quality Control and Quality Assurance procedures.
  • Label requisitions, specimen containers, and cassettes as needed.
  • Oversee laboratory equipment maintenance and track routine maintenance and quality controls performed.
  • Operate, clean, and sterilize laboratory equipment, glassware, instruments, and workstations.
  • Dispose of hazardous chemical wastes in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
  • Uphold the highest standards of confidentiality.
  • Adhere to all applicable State, Federal, and professional regulations, as well as company policies and procedural manuals.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of one of the following: Associate's degree in biology or chemistry or successful completion of a NAACLS accredited histotechnology program or Associate's degree with 12 semester hours of biology or chemistry.
  • Possession of a New York State Clinical Laboratory Technologist/Technician or Histological Technician license.

Additional Information:

This position involves routine access to Protected Health Information (PHI).
