Unit Description

Our 24-bed Medical/Surgical unit handles a broad spectrum of medical conditions. You will encounter patients with various diagnoses including chest pain, congestive heart failure, syncope, strokes, diabetes, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, along with post-surgical patients. We pride ourselves on our collaborative environment, fostering a supportive work family.

Patient Care Ratios: 1 RN to 5-6 Patients during day shifts, supported by 3 Nursing Assistants and a Secretary; overnight shifts include 3 Nursing Assistants for assistance.

Role Summary:

The Clinical Nurse is accountable for delivering competent nursing care aligned with professional standards. Reporting to the Nurse Manager/Director, this role involves coordinating and executing patient care through the nursing process within a hospital environment.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Professional Development: Engage in identifying and addressing personal learning needs. Attend educational programs tailored to these needs and utilize relevant patient education materials. Assess the readiness of patients and families to learn, considering their developmental levels and other influencing factors.
2. Care Evaluation: Define expected patient outcomes and seek guidance for revising care plans as necessary. Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to evaluate patient care and communicate essential information to ensure continuity of care.
3. Care Implementation: Exhibit proficiency in managing patients with complex health issues, addressing physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs. Conduct bedside point-of-care testing as required and adhere to organizational and nursing standards in care delivery. Prioritize care based on patient and family needs, consulting timely with appropriate resources for complex cases.
4. Leadership Development: Set professional growth goals and achieve them within specified timeframes. Foster intra/interdepartmental collaboration and participate in unit goal development and performance improvement initiatives. Utilize effective communication systems and promote cost-effective care while providing constructive feedback to colleagues.
5. Patient Assessment: Analyze data from intricate situations to establish care priorities, integrating physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs. Anticipate discharge requirements for patients and families, building relationships that empower advocacy for their needs.
6. Care Planning: Collaborate with patients and families to create or update care plans, leveraging multidisciplinary resources. Address cultural and ethnic considerations in care planning and demonstrate the ability to prioritize tasks for patients with complex needs.
7. Research Engagement: Stay informed by reading relevant journals and discussing applicable studies or articles with the team.

Additional Information

Education Requirements:
Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
Must hold a valid Registered Nurse license in North Carolina.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers is required.
Professional Experience Requirements:
A minimum of one year of nursing experience is necessary.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Essential nursing competencies and interpersonal skills are required.
