POSITION SUMMARY: This role is essential for overseeing all Sushi and Sashimi offerings for menus, special occasions, and promotional events. The Sushi Culinary Specialist is responsible for ensuring that all related function setups adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and conducting taste assessments. Adherence to safety protocols and guidelines is paramount. Additionally, this position assists Demi-Chefs, Kitchen Supervisors, and Sous Chefs with various kitchen functions as required. Other duties may be assigned by Sous Chefs or kitchen management, always in compliance with the safety rules outlined in the Houston Country Club Employee Handbook.

As a leader in the kitchen, you will play a crucial role in enhancing the dining experience for our members. Your commitment to quality and a clean, efficient kitchen is vital. We value individuals who share our dedication to excellence and strive to deliver the best possible service every day. Your responsibilities will include ensuring high-quality food preparation and maintaining the necessary tools and equipment for daily tasks. At the end of each shift, you will collaborate with the Chef on duty to ensure that all stations are clean and organized, and that all items for upcoming events are properly ordered and prepped.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare ingredients for cooking, including portioning, chopping, and storing food.
  • Wash and peel fresh produce, ensuring quality standards are met.
  • Measure and mix ingredients accurately, following recipes and presentation standards.
  • Operate kitchen equipment such as ovens, stoves, grills, and fryers.
  • Monitor food quality during preparation and cooking processes.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the workstation and kitchen area.
  • Assist with the preparation of other food products as directed by supervisors.
  • Communicate effectively with kitchen management to ensure consistency and quality.
  • Train and evaluate junior sushi cooks, providing guidance and corrective feedback.
  • Propose innovative sushi concepts and other Asian dishes as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Culinary degree or equivalent experience in a sushi restaurant is required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Prior culinary work experience is essential, along with the ability to pass a practical qualification test.
  • References from previous educational or work history must be available upon request.

Working Conditions:

The working environment may include exposure to varying temperatures and conditions.

Special Requirements:
