Job Overview

The Senior Software Systems Engineer is an integral member of a software development team based in New Jersey. This role carries significant responsibilities, emphasizing both software development and project oversight.

You will engage in logistics initiatives for a diverse array of major corporations, crafting customer-specific enhancements to our foundational software by delivering sortation solutions tailored for warehouses, distribution centers, postal facilities, and airports.

This position presents a valuable opportunity for substantial career advancement and will involve close collaboration with Engineering, Project Management, and Service teams. The role requires the ability to travel up to 40% of the time for extended durations, both domestically and internationally.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, and implement software applications as a full-stack developer to address intricate business challenges.
  • Engage with clients to assess business needs and generate design documentation.
  • Collaborate with a team of software developers to strategize and execute projects.
  • Establish and maintain the current development, testing, and production environments.
  • Provide PC and server setup and support for both internal lab environments and external production settings, including networking.
  • Create interface programs utilizing a variety of communication protocols.
  • Install and validate software at on-site locations such as warehouses, airports, and distribution centers.
  • Produce user documentation for software applications (Technical Writing).
  • Participate in rotational Tier-2 on-call support for established projects and clients.
  • Assist in developing software test plans and lead troubleshooting efforts for software bug resolution and quality assurance.
  • Work collaboratively with other engineering disciplines across various projects.
  • Ensure adherence to established coding and architectural standards.
  • Provide ongoing project status updates, planning contributions, and risk assessments.
  • Support troubleshooting of operational systems, whether remotely or on-site.
  • Enhance technical knowledge, including familiarity with BEUMER software products.
  • Stay informed about the latest relevant technologies.
  • May be assigned to special projects or additional tasks as required.
  • Take on greater ownership and responsibility within projects and related tasks.
  • Mentor and train newer team members.
  • Continuously improve internal and external documentation to bolster training and project execution practices.
  • Increase involvement and responsibility in critical project meetings, including controls and kickoff meetings with clients and sales.
  • Act as the lead software engineer across multiple projects, guiding a team of software developers to implement, validate, and commission design decisions.
  • Participate in career fairs and similar outreach initiatives.
  • Contribute to the creation of quotes for smaller projects.
  • Provide detailed analysis and input for the development of functional and design specifications for software solutions.
  • Support the code review process for peer software developers within the team.
  • Continue to expand a comprehensive technical knowledge relevant to the field.
  • Capable of breaking down a system design into modules, interfaces, and relevant tasks.
