Job Title: Forensic Scientist IV

Join the Arizona Department of Public Safety as a Forensic Scientist IV in the Firearms Discipline. As a key member of our team, you will utilize advanced scientific techniques and instrumentation to examine, identify, and evaluate physical evidence.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Examine and analyze physical evidence, including firearms, questioned documents, and biological specimens.
  • Prepare technical reports and provide expert testimony in court.
  • Provide technical advice and guidance to other forensic scientists and law enforcement personnel.
  • Stay current on scientific advancements in the forensic field through training and research.
  • Respond to crime scenes and gather, preserve, and move items of evidence to the crime lab for further analysis.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or a closely related physical or natural science.
  • At least 10 years of experience as a forensic scientist in a recognized crime laboratory.
  • Demonstrated competency in at least one forensic discipline, with at least 3 years of experience within the discipline.
  • Court or professional presentation experience applicable to forensics.
Working Conditions:

May be exposed to fumes or dust, bodily fluids, toxic or caustic chemicals, or materials that transmit infectious disease. May be required to move items up to 20 pounds. Must be able to respond to crime scenes and court appearances as needed.

Additional Requirements:
  • Must provide a DNA sample for the staff database.
  • Must successfully complete the examination process.
