What is the Graduate Nurse Rotational Program (GNRP)?

UPMC Harrisburg is excited to announce the hiring of Graduate Nurses as full-time Professional Staff Nurses as part of a specialized Rotational Program.

The GNRP includes rotations in Neurology, Acute Care Cardiac, and the Cardiac Thoracic Interventional track for a duration of six months.

Expectations as a GNRP Professional Staff Nurse:
The Professional Staff Nurse is responsible for delivering high-quality patient care while demonstrating compassion and a commitment to learning.

This role requires independent judgment, effective communication, and collaborative partnerships with physicians, other healthcare providers, patients, and their families to achieve optimal patient outcomes throughout the care continuum.

As a Professional Staff Nurse and integral member of the care delivery team, you will set the standards for nursing care quality and hold accountability for its delivery.

You will consistently demonstrate dedication to the community and the nursing profession.

Post-GNRP Placement:

Upon completing the Graduate Nurse Rotational Program, placements will be determined based on participant preferences, hiring manager input, and organizational needs through a collaborative matching process.

Successful applicants will be assigned appropriate job titles and salaries according to their experience and education level.


Shift/Hours:
RNs will work a rotating 12-hour schedule to ensure continuous coverage.


Graduate Nurses must be eligible for State Board Licensure and successfully pass the examination before starting this role or possess a Temporary Practice Permit and commit to taking the NCLEX examination within six months of hire.

A BSN is preferred, along with completion of the UPMC Student Nurse Internship Program or a clinical transitions course at UPMC.

The individual must demonstrate the necessary knowledge and skills to provide care and interact appropriately with patients of all ages.

They should also exhibit an understanding of growth and development principles across the lifespan and possess the ability to assess and interpret data reflective of the patient's status to identify their specific care needs.

Strong interpersonal skills are essential for establishing positive relationships with executives, managers, physicians, and patients/families.

Critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving abilities are required for various aspects of patient care.


Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse is required prior to the program start date, or candidates must have a Temporary Practice Permit and commit to taking the NCLEX examination within six months of hire.

CPR certification is required based on AHA standards, including both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.

Clearances must be dated within 90 days.
