Cardiothoracic Surgical Physician Assistant

Position Overview: Under the general oversight of the Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery, the incumbent will serve as a key provider of patient care within the domains of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Intensive Care Units. This role encompasses comprehensive clinical support for both inpatient and outpatient procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and assess healthcare treatment plans for patients undergoing cardiac and thoracic surgical interventions.
- Deliver patient care across various surgical services, ensuring coordination within outpatient clinics and inpatient wards.
- Engage in direct supervision by attending surgeons or chief residents, emphasizing holistic care from pre-operative through post-operative stages.
- Act as a liaison with counselors, social workers, and research nurses to facilitate comprehensive patient management.
Qualifications:
- Graduation from an accredited physician assistant program.
- Possession of a valid California Physician Assistant license.
- Current certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications required at the time of hire.
- Recent relevant clinical experience is essential.
- Specialized knowledge in cardiac and thoracic surgery, along with wound care practices.
- Proficiency in outpatient clinic operations and post-operative inpatient responsibilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Two or more years of experience in Cardiothoracic Surgery as a licensed Physician Assistant.
- Ability to instruct medical personnel in acute and chronic care methodologies.
- Competence in operating medical equipment relevant to the role.
Special Conditions:
- Flexibility in working hours is required, with potential for weekend shifts and overtime as necessary.
- Employment is contingent upon passing a criminal background check and pre-employment physical examination.
