Job Summary

Florida Atlantic University is seeking a highly skilled Tax Administrator to join its team in Boca Raton, FL. As a key member of the Payroll and Tax Compliance team, you will be responsible for managing the university's foreign national payroll process, resolving NRA-related concerns, and ensuring compliance with U.S. tax laws.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage FAU's foreign national payroll process for the university's nonresident alien population.
  • Work with FAU staff and NRAs to resolve NRA-related concerns.
  • Act as the primary payroll contact for NRAs, assisting individuals in following Institute policies and procedures consistent with U.S. tax laws.
  • Respond to a high volume of NRA community inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Keep records in Workday and Sprintax up to date.
  • Conduct independent tax research and serve as liaison between FAU and the IRS on NRA taxation matters.
  • Manage the tax treaty process, including identifying eligibility, confirming tax treaty status, and performing initial payroll setup.
  • Update all taxation changes in Workday to ensure correct NRA taxation for the working population.
  • Coordinate with Tax & Compliance staff to ensure correct tax withholdings on foreign supplier invoices.
  • Compile Form 1042s data, including auditing, correcting, and preparing data for 1042 tax forms and filings using Sprintax.
  • Perform weekly, monthly, and quarterly audits in Workday and Sprintax.
  • Coordinate data mapping and integration projects between Workday and Sprintax.
  • Work with Tuition & Billing Services and International Student Services to capture non-qualifying reportable payments such as scholarships/stipends given to NRA students.
  • Ensure University compliance with tax statutes and IRS regulations by assisting with developing tax compliance strategies and procedures.
  • Support the Tax & Compliance team with backup support for 1098T, 1099, and UBIT filings and tasks.
  • Recommend business process changes to increase accuracy and continually analyze tax-related transactions in ERP systems.
  • Work with the Director of Payroll to create and update NRA-related communications.
