Job Description

Job Title: Chief Physician-Medical Unit

Job Summary:

The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) is a key leadership position responsible for ensuring the safety, quality, and effectiveness of medical care provided by CHCI to its patients. The CMO provides medical leadership and support to the medical staff, sets strategic goals, and promotes wellness and resilience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide medical leadership and support to the medical staff
  • Set and achieve strategic goals for medical care
  • Promote wellness and resilience among medical staff
  • Ensure safe, high-quality, and effective medical care
  • Build health equity and reduce health disparities
  • Identify, recruit, and retain outstanding medical staff
  • Collaborate with other clinical chiefs to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Work with senior leadership to achieve clinical, financial, and service goals
  • Develop and implement new organizational policies for the medical staff
  • Lead the Medical Quality Improvement Committee and other committees
  • Provide oversight and direction to HR and other departments
  • Develop and manage recruitment and retention strategies
  • Monitor professional and non-clinical performance and wellness of medical staff
  • Develop and complete performance appraisals
  • Make recommendations for provider discipline and termination
  • Oversee provider termination and exit from the medical staff

Requirements:

  • MD/DO or APRN/DNP from an approved medical/osteopathy/nursing school
  • Graduate of an accredited residency program in family medicine/family practice, internal medicine, pediatrics, or internal medicine/pediatrics
  • Current clinical competence and qualification for appointment to CHCI's medical staff
  • Evidence of additional medical education and/or training in healthcare management, public health, and/or healthcare administration
  • American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer or American Heart Association BLS/AED for Healthcare Providers certification
  • Level 1 bloodborne pathogen/chemical hazard exposure consistent with medical staff privileges

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Mastery of Joint Commission Credentialing and Department of Public Health standards for medical staff licensure
  • NCQA and other quality standards and principles
  • Leadership role in understanding, communicating, achieving, and maintaining quality standards and Patient-Centered Medical Home principles
