Wheeler Staffing Partners is currently in search of an Automation Startup Technician. This role involves executing commissioning, integration, and control tasks to enhance client operations and optimize associated products. A significant on-site presence at client locations is required. The position may evolve into an Automation Engineer role based on company needs and the technician's skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set up instrumentation, analyzers, and devices to meet project specifications.
  • Adjust Variable Frequency Drives according to project requirements.
  • Conduct various installation tasks to accommodate change orders.
  • Modify PLC/Remote Panels as necessary.
  • Add or remove instrumentation or subsystems following approved modifications.
  • Ensure proper functionality of programmed logic in PLC systems with guidance from the on-site Process/Commissioning Engineer.
  • Verify and troubleshoot the operation of client integration and control systems, including communication protocols of the installed systems.
  • Collaborate with on-site contractors to ensure effective wiring and installation of company systems, enhancing on-site time management and commissioning efficiency.
  • Modify PLC logic during system startup to meet the requirements set by the Process/Commissioning Engineer.
  • Work with product vendors to resolve instrument and component issues during the startup and commissioning phases.
  • Engage with application specialists and vendors during the bidding process regarding design and specifications of control equipment and related electrical work.
  • Document all changes and deviations from the planned installation and communicate these to Automation Engineers for proper documentation.
  • Provide technical support, including training, to Sales and Product Support teams.
  • Propose solutions to unexpected electrical or automation challenges that arise during commissioning.
  • Assist Automation Engineers with final testing and simulation phases in-house.
  • Help prepare support documentation to clearly define project-specific programming needs, including I/O planning and control scheme documentation.
  • Gather and create component/control documentation as required by client expectations.
  • Perform all tasks in accordance with established safety protocols.
  • Adhere to the company engineering department's record-keeping system for drawings and associated data for future reference.
  • Assist with the technical and administrative processing of all project phases concerning the responsibilities outlined above.
  • Engage in technical processing related to evaluation, selection, specification, and system commissioning activities.
  • Verify processing and analysis of client requirements specifications.

Qualifications:

  • Willingness to travel extensively, with home time every two weeks.
  • Completion of a Technical School program focused on PLC or electronics, along with three years of hands-on experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a production, manufacturing, or design environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and other related software.
  • Experience with instruments and PID control technologies.
  • Demonstrated competencies in:
    • Project-specific decision-making
    • Proper wiring techniques
    • Interpreting basic PLC logic
    • Reading P&IDs and electrical schematics
    • Familiarity with control systems, including:
    • Rockwell Systems such as Control Logix 5000, Compact Logix, and Panel Views
    • Siemens Systems such as S7-400, S7-300, TIA Portal, PCS7, and HMI
    • SCADA Systems such as Wonderware Intouch, Archestra, GE-IP Cimplicity, and WinCC
