School Bus Driver Job Description

As a School Bus Driver with Harlow's Bus Service, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our students. Your primary responsibility will be to safely transport students to and from school and related events.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Transport students in a timely and safe manner to and from school and school activities, following district safety procedures and applicable State Board of Education rules and regulations.
  • Operate and safely drive a school bus in various weather conditions, complying with traffic regulations and using appropriate interpersonal communication skills to address any issues that may arise.
  • Communicate bus rules and safety requirements to passengers, addressing any improper behavior promptly and effectively.
  • Communicate with parents to resolve any issues related to student behavior, utilizing strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Assist students boarding and unloading the bus, including wheelchair students and adaptive equipment.
  • Inspect buses daily to identify and report any deficiencies, performing routine maintenance procedures such as fluid and tire checks.
  • Regulate heating, lighting, and ventilating systems for passenger comfort.
  • Comply with all traffic regulations and rules, including Federal, State, and District laws concerning the operation of a school bus.
  • Complete all records and reports in a timely and accurate manner, including pre-trip and post-trip logs, mileage records, and student reports.
  • Read maps and follow written and geographic directions according to route and trip logs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by leadership.
  • Operate a two-way radio and maintain a clean and safe working environment.
  • Work with Harlow's Safety Manager to implement and comply with all DOT and OSHA rules and regulations.

Requirements:

  • Valid and/or eligible to hold a CDL drivers license to operate a school bus, with a good driving record and no airbrake restriction.
  • Comply with part 391 of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and obtain a US DOT Medical Examiners Certificate.
  • Obtain First Aid/CPR certification upon hire, if required.

This is a part-time position with a competitive rate of pay and opportunities for bonuses and incentives.
