Position Title: Agricultural Operations Specialist I
Role Summary
The Agricultural Operations Specialist I will play a vital role in assisting the Research and Production team with the cultivation and upkeep of variety trials, breeding workshops, and seed production crops at our research facility and associated fields throughout the growing season. During the off-season, the specialist will support operations at our other locations. This is a full-time, hourly position with a starting wage of $15/hr, commensurate with experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute farm production tasks including planting, irrigation, weed management, pest control, crop maintenance, harvesting, and seed cleaning.
- Engage in daily team meetings to discuss production needs.
- Provide constructive feedback to supervisors regarding operational requirements.
- Ensure safe operation of equipment and maintenance of facilities.
- Oversee end-of-season clean-up of fields and equipment.
- Process commercial bulk seed orders accurately.
- Assist in inventory management and material organization.
- Support daily order shipments through gathering, checking, packing, and shipping tasks.
- Pack seeds into various sizes using both manual and mechanical methods.
- Maintain a comfortable working environment while adhering to detailed instructions.
- Be available for overtime and weekend work as required.
- Complete all necessary training and additional duties as assigned.
Education & Qualifications
- Knowledge of organic and sustainable farming practices.
- At least one season of experience as a seasonal farm crew member or equivalent experience.
- Basic training in tractor and tool operation, with opportunities for further training post-hire.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook and basic computer applications.
- Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a dependable work ethic.
- Valid driver's license and ability to operate pallet jacks.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to read, count, and write for accurate documentation.
- Capability to work in varying weather conditions and navigate uneven terrain.
- Physical strength to lift up to 70 lbs. repetitively and stand or walk for extended periods.
