The Oncology Nurse in the Duke Cancer Center Clinic is a skilled RN with specialized knowledge in oncology, dedicated to providing personalized support to patients, families, and caregivers. This role involves helping patients navigate the complexities of the healthcare system, ensuring they receive timely access to quality medical and psychosocial care throughout their cancer journey.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including healthcare providers and support staff.
- Facilitate the acquisition of necessary medical records and documentation for patient evaluations.
- Ensure that all patients have appropriate orders and follow-up appointments scheduled.
- Provide education on medication management, symptom control, and surgical procedures as needed.
- Coordinate chemotherapy schedules and assist with patient education regarding treatment.
- Perform triage for patient inquiries that do not require immediate medical attention.
- Support the management of medication refill requests and communicate test results to patients.
- Engage in additional tasks as directed by the Nurse Manager or delegated by healthcare providers.
- Education: BSN or ADN required; if holding an ADN, enrollment in a BSN program is expected within two years of hire.
- Preferred: One year of experience in oncology nursing.
- Certification: Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) is preferred.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficient in basic computer skills and electronic health record systems.
- Minimum of twelve months of relevant clinical experience required.
- Must obtain OCN certification within two years of hire.
- Current and unrestricted RN licensure in North Carolina is required.
- Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association is mandatory.
- Oncology Nurse (OCN) certification is encouraged within two years of hire.
