Position: Adjunct Instructor in Art and Architecture

The Department of Art and Architecture is dedicated to providing comprehensive degrees and certifications in Studio Art, Architecture, and Digital Multimedia Design.

We are currently in search of an Adjunct Instructor to deliver one or more courses in the upcoming academic term.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong enthusiasm for education, a commitment to the institution's mission, and a proven track record of fostering student engagement and success in the classroom.

We are looking for instructors in:
  • Art Appreciation
  • Architecture

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop course content that aligns with learning objectives and encourages active student involvement.
  • Create a dynamic learning atmosphere that stimulates intellectual curiosity and encourages students to apply discipline-specific problem-solving strategies.
  • Utilize a range of formative and summative assessments to ensure effective teaching and achievement of course learning outcomes.
  • Support students in reaching their academic, personal, and professional aspirations while fostering a respectful environment that values diversity and inclusivity.
  • Engage with and contribute to the academic and professional communities of students, promoting collaboration and teamwork.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Academic Credentials:
Qualifications for specific courses are determined by institutional policy.

Typically, a Master's degree in the relevant field or a Master's degree with an additional 18 graduate credit hours in a related discipline qualifies an individual to teach in that academic area.

Eligibility is assessed based on transcripts, course descriptions, and documentation from the granting institution confirming the appropriateness of the major content for the teaching assignment.

In cases where an instructor's academic background diverges from traditional credentialing criteria, but the instructor has relevant qualifications or experience that contribute to effective teaching and student learning outcomes, a request for an exception may be submitted for approval.


Art Appreciation Courses:
MFA in Studio Art or Master's in Art History

Architecture Courses:
Master's in Architecture with portfolio review; or,
5-year Bachelor's in Architecture from an accredited program with 2 years of experience in a licensed architecture firm and portfolio review; or,
B.S. in Architecture or B.A. in Architecture or B.A. in Environmental Design or B.F.A. in Interior Design with 4 years of experience in a licensed architecture firm and portfolio review.

Familiarity with Brightspace and Zoom is preferred.
Strong oral and written communication skills are essential, along with the ability to engage with a diverse group of students and staff.

Experience working with a diverse, multilingual student population is desirable, as is a commitment to the open access mission of community colleges.
