Job Summary

The University of Utah Health is seeking a Medical Assistant to join our Ambulatory Clinical Care operation. As a Medical Assistant, you will provide assistive care to patients, facilitate the efficient delivery of patient care, and support the professional role of licensed staff.

Responsibilities
  • Act as a medical scribe to assigned providers, recording medical interactions with patients and assisting with clerical duties related to medical documentation.
  • Prepare patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures, including recording vital signs and medical history.
  • Recognize and respond to emergency situations, reporting patient concerns and changes in condition to licensed staff.
  • Perform Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) waived lab tests and report results to appropriate personnel.
  • Assist with procedures, treatments, and interventions, and act as a chaperone for healthcare providers during patient examinations.
  • Monitor and clean patient examination rooms, unit areas, and equipment, restocking medical supplies and reporting outdated supplies and necessary equipment repairs.
  • Assist with scheduling appointments, procedures, and diagnostic tests, and perform routine clerical functions such as filing medical information and locating department charts.
Requirements
  • Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system.
  • Verifiable completion of one of the following: State-approved EMT course, one year of Medical Assistant experience in an ambulatory care clinic or other healthcare setting, Medical Assisting education program, or University Hospital Medical Assistant certification program.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands

This position involves intermediate working conditions in a healthcare setting that may exert up to 50 pounds and may consistently require lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or otherwise moving patients or objects, such as medical equipment, while providing patient care.

Workers in this position may be exposed to infectious diseases and may be required to function around prisoners or behavioral health patients.

This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements.
