Job Summary

As a Truck Driver for The Salvation Army, you will be responsible for driving a Salvation Army truck along a scheduled route to pick up donations and/or deliver merchandise to customers. You will operate the vehicle in compliance with established Salvation Army standards and state driving regulations. Your duties will also include lifting, carrying, loading, and unloading a variety of donations, including furniture, appliances, clothing, and more. You will ensure the safety, security, and accountability of the vehicle and donations at all times. Additionally, you may be required to assist with work in the thrift store and warehouse.

Minimum Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need to have a High School Diploma or equivalent, and at least one year of experience driving a heavy-duty truck or large van. Alternatively, you may have any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. You must also hold a valid State Driver's License and have OSHA Forklift Certification.

Key Responsibilities

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

  • Meeting all DOT requirements for vehicles associated with this position
  • Knowledge of the assigned geographical area
  • Organizing pick-up tickets and scheduling routes to save time and gasoline consumption
  • Working effectively and cooperatively with co-workers
  • Providing excellent customer service and interacting with people, clients, customers, and employees in a calm, courteous, and tactful manner

Physical Requirements

This role requires the ability to meet attendance requirements, arrive on time for all scheduled shifts, and read, write, and communicate in the English language. You will also need to be able to read and follow a map and handwritten directions, and drive a heavy-duty truck. Additionally, you will be required to lift and carry, and push/pull materials, supplies, and equipment frequently, and work in a fast-paced environment with frequent changes in temperature and weather conditions.

Working Conditions

As a Truck Driver for The Salvation Army, you will be exposed to the outdoors and may experience physical discomforts associated with changes in weather, such as rain, cold, snow, and heat. You will also be required to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent changes in temperature and weather conditions.
