Job Summary:

As a Truck Driver with The Salvation Army USA Southern Territory, you will be responsible for driving a Salvation Army truck along a scheduled route to pick up donations and/or deliver merchandise to customers. You will operate the vehicle in compliance with established Salvation Army standards and state driving regulations. Your duties will also include lifting, carrying, loading, and unloading a variety of donations, including furniture, appliances, clothing, and more. You will ensure the safety, security, and accountability of the vehicle and donations at all times. Additionally, you will assist in performing work in the thrift store and warehouse.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Education and Experience:
While a High School Diploma or G.E.D. is preferred, it is not required. However, one year of experience driving a heavy-duty truck or large van is necessary. Alternatively, any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered.

Certifications/Licenses:
A valid State Driver's License and OSHA Forklift Certification are required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
You must meet all DOT requirements for vehicles associated with this position. You should have knowledge of the assigned geographical area and be able to organize pick-up tickets and schedule routes in a manner that saves time and gasoline consumption. You should also be able to work effectively and cooperatively with co-workers and communicate with people, clients, customers, and employees in a calm, courteous, and tactful manner.

Physical Requirements:
You must be able to meet attendance requirements, arrive on time for all scheduled shifts, read, write, and communicate in the English language, read and follow a map and handwritten directions, drive a heavy-duty truck, and lift and carry materials, supplies, and equipment frequently. You should also be able to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent changes in tasks and duties.
Working Conditions:

As a Truck Driver, you will be exposed to the outdoors and various weather conditions, including rain, cold, snow, and heat. You will also be exposed to physical discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and other environmental factors.
