About the Position

The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assistant State Veterinarian and Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) Program Coordinator to join our team. As a key member of our Animal Industry Division, you will play a critical role in protecting the health and safety of livestock and domestic animals in Michigan.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and administrative support to the Division Director and other senior staff members.
  • Coordinate and manage programs and initiatives related to animal health, disease control, and public health.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including veterinarians, farmers, and industry representatives, to promote animal health and well-being.
  • Contribute to the development and enforcement of laws and regulations related to animal health and welfare.
Requirements
  • Doctorate degree in veterinary medicine.
  • At least three years of professional experience equivalent to a Veterinarian 12, two years equivalent to a Veterinarian Manager 13 or Veterinary Specialist 13, or one year equivalent to a Veterinarian Manager 14 or Veterinary Specialist 14.
  • Experience as a professional manager, program/staff specialist, or equivalent experience.
