Job Summary

The Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Veterinary Assistant to join our team. As a Veterinary Assistant, you will play a critical role in supporting the veterinary nursing team in providing high-quality patient care.

Responsibilities
  • Assist veterinary nurses with patient care and treatment, including administering medications, taking vital signs, and performing routine medical procedures.
  • Stock and maintain supplies, including medications, medical equipment, and consumables.
  • Clean and disinfect animal enclosures, equipment, and surfaces to maintain a clean and safe environment.
  • Assist with laboratory procedures, including blood draws, urinalyses, and other diagnostic tests.
  • Provide excellent customer service to clients, including answering phone calls, responding to emails, and providing information about our services.
  • Work collaboratively with the veterinary nursing team to ensure seamless patient care and efficient workflow.
  • Participate in ongoing education and training to stay up-to-date on the latest veterinary medical procedures and technologies.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
  • 1-2 years of experience in a veterinary setting, preferably in a nursing or support role.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients, veterinarians, and other staff members.
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds or more, with frequent standing, walking, and bending.
  • Flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
