Position Overview
We are seeking a full-time, motivated professional with formal training in Landscape Architecture and experience in ecological restoration, biology, or botany to join our Habitat Restoration Team. This role offers significant opportunities for professional development and increased responsibilities aligned with the candidate's skills and aspirations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop comprehensive conceptual design plans and construction documentation for habitat restoration and open space projects, including native plant restoration and recreational trails.
- Conduct construction oversight and prepare detailed field reports for restoration and landscape implementation projects.
- Oversee monitoring and reporting for long-term restoration initiatives, including field data collection and analysis.
- Prepare technical documentation, including site assessments and annual monitoring reports for habitat restoration projects.
- Create construction drawings for site preparation, layout, grading, planting, irrigation, and detailed construction plans using AutoCAD software.
- Provide design support and lead planning efforts for mitigation, revegetation, and recreational projects.
- Conduct preliminary analyses using GIS software.
- Assist with resource agency permitting processes.
- Collaborate with in-house biologists, restoration ecologists, landscape architects, and engineers.
- Interpret habitat assessments, vegetation mapping, and biological resource surveys.
- Manage project workflows, budgets, and financial performance, including coordination with sub-consultants.
- Draft project scopes and cost estimates for proposals.
- Engage in business development initiatives.
Qualifications:
- B.A. or B.S. in Restoration Ecology, Environmental Science, Earth System Science, Biology, Landscape Architecture, or a related environmental field with a strong ecological foundation.
- Experience in habitat restoration planning and implementation.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to draft and edit technical documents.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD software.
- Able to perform demanding fieldwork in extreme weather conditions and challenging terrains.
- Valid driver's license in the State of California.
- Self-driven individual with creative problem-solving abilities, capable of working independently and collaboratively.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Landscape Architecture or a related design field, along with a professional landscape architecture license.
- Ability to independently develop new projects and lead business development efforts in collaboration with the Habitat Restoration Practice Director.
- Expertise in conducting QA/QC technical reviews of design plans and documentation.
- Experience coordinating with Resource Agencies for mitigation projects.
- In-depth knowledge of local ecology, plant communities, hydrology, soils, and both native and non-native plant species.
- Familiarity with GIS and Land F/X software.
- Experience with mitigation banking and/or In-Lieu Fee programs.
- Exceptional technical writing skills.
Working Conditions:
This position operates in both remote and office environments, requiring standard office equipment usage. Occasional site visits are necessary, which may involve exposure to outdoor conditions, including noise, uneven surfaces, and extreme weather.
