Medical Laboratory Scientist Microbiology Evening Shift

Rivers Edge Hospital is seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our team in the Microbiology department. This is a full-time position working evening shifts, with occasional days and overnights.
Responsibilities:- Perform diagnostic laboratory procedures to provide timely and accurate test results for healthcare providers.
- Participate in our Laboratory's Quality Assurance Plan to ensure high-quality results.
- Maintain a high level of customer satisfaction by practicing Rivers Edge Hospital's Standards of Behavior.
- Understand the clinical laboratory's role in servicing patients and demonstrate initiative in maintaining workflow.
- Participate in teamwork and communicate effectively with colleagues and other departments.
- Wear a Vocera device to facilitate communication with other departments and coworkers.
- Recognize testing and lab priorities and act accordingly.
- Exercise good judgment in non-routine situations and communicate effectively with others.
- Communicate test results, normal ranges, and specimen requirements to healthcare providers.
- Answer inquiries about test results, methods, specificity, sensitivity, and factors that can influence test results.
- Seek assistance or clarification when needed and accept constructive criticism.
- Adhere to federal and state laws, regulations, and guidelines (OSHA, CLIA).
- Adapt to changes in practice and implement approved changes and new tasks.
- Take responsibility for one's own career development and seek out continuing education opportunities.
- Manage stress and resolve conflicts.
- Perform EKGs, including EKG Rhythm Strip-Lead II and Right-sided EKGs.
- Perform waived, moderate, and high-complexity tests authorized by the Lab Manager.
- Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling, test analysis, reporting, and maintaining patient test results.
- Properly identify and collect adequate specimens for laboratory testing via venipuncture, capillary collection, and arterial collection.
- Participate in proficiency testing programs.
- Adhere to the Laboratory's quality control policy and procedures.
- Be capable of identifying problems that may affect test performance or reporting of test results.
- Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) from an accredited institution or a Biologic Science or Chemistry Degree.
- Certification by ASCP or equivalent.
- Ability to travel to other work sites as needed with own transportation.
- Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) or will be certified within six months of hire.
