Job Summary

The Respiratory Therapist plays a vital role in providing comprehensive respiratory care to patients in various settings. This position requires a strong foundation in respiratory therapy principles, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess patient respiratory needs and develop individualized care plans
  • Implement and evaluate respiratory therapy interventions, including ventilation management and breathing therapy
  • Collaborate with healthcare teams to ensure seamless patient care
  • Perform postural drainage, percussion, and bronchial hygiene techniques as needed
  • Conduct bedside pulmonary function tests and blood gas punctures
  • Respond to cardiac arrest and Rapid Response situations, performing CPR as necessary
Requirements
  • Graduate of an approved Respiratory Therapy program
  • Current and valid New York State Respiratory Therapy license
  • Credentialed as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
  • BLS/CPR certification; NRP and ACLS certifications strongly recommended

Work Environment

Must be able to transport and lift heavy medical gas cylinders. May be exposed to chemicals necessary for task performance.

Primary Population Served

Neonatal, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients, as well as patients with exceptional communication needs, developmental delays, and cultural needs.
