Job Summary:

Apart from managing union-represented employees, the successful candidate will be responsible for directing labor to maximize efficiency while maintaining a safe work environment. The role involves supervising employees, counseling, disciplining, and making termination recommendations as necessary.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze operational needs and assign labor to perform operations efficiently.
  • Supervise union-represented employees, including counseling, disciplining, and making termination recommendations.
  • Train and direct employees in proper operating procedures.
  • Ensure a safe working environment by enforcing safety rules and employing independent judgment.
  • Adjust grievances submitted by labor and address issues raised by union business agents and members.
  • Assist with planning, holding, and documenting daily safety and operations meetings.
  • Develop and implement plans to identify, address, and resolve safety hazards.

Requirements:

  • Experience in managing related union labor.
  • Ability to plan and organize projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Availability to work varied hours, shifts, and days.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with union-represented workforce and other staff.
  • Accountability for a safe and efficient operation, together with the ability to maintain a positive working relationship with union-represented and other employees.

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to climb up and down a ladder multiple times within a shift in a marine terminal environment.
  • Ability to work in an environment that may be hazardous to persons unable to see and hear fast-moving equipment.
  • Ability to work day or night shifts, including weekends.
  • Ability to use a computer/keyboard.
