Overview:
The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) in a relief capacity plays a crucial role in executing and assessing a patient's anesthetic strategy and their recovery process following anesthesia. This position is essential when the primary care personnel are unavailable.
Under direct supervision, the CRNA collaborates with the healthcare team to gather and evaluate patients' medical and surgical histories, ensuring timely and appropriate care delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the collection, assessment, and analysis of all relevant data concerning the patient's medical and surgical background, tailored to the upcoming procedure.
- Ensure a secure environment and respond effectively to emergencies and safety risks.
- Prepare and administer medications and fluids adhering to established safety protocols.
- Maintain continuous monitoring with ongoing assessments of airway management, anesthesia depth, fluid status, and physiological responses to anesthesia to guarantee patient safety.
Documentation:
Complete all necessary documentation, including the Surgical Safety Checklist, pre-operative assessments, intra-operative anesthetic records, and transfer-of-care notes. Additionally, report incidents through the computerized Safety Portal and perform other assigned tasks.
Qualifications:
Education: Required: Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing and School of Nurse Anesthesia.
Licensure/Certification: Required: North Carolina Registered Nurse (RN) licensure, recognition as an Advanced Practice RN by the NC Board of Nursing, and certification/recertification as a Registered Nurse Anesthetist by the National Board of Certification & Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NCBRNA).
