Position Overview:
A Lead Mechanical Engineering Specialist will oversee and manage all facets of mechanical engineering, encompassing HVAC systems, hydronic piping, plumbing, and energy assessments for multi-disciplinary building design initiatives of moderate to large scale, catering to both commercial and governmental sectors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Execute comprehensive mechanical engineering design, particularly in HVAC, which includes:
- Conceptual Studies
- Program Requirements
- Design Analyses
- Equipment selection and layout
- System selection and layout
- Engage with clients to establish and confirm the proposed scope of work.
- Provide leadership and coordination for mechanical engineering projects and the mechanical components of multi-disciplinary projects, collaborating with project managers to align with client budgets, contract fees, objectives, and timelines.
- Facilitate communication and supervision of mechanical design within multi-disciplinary teams to ensure seamless integration with other design disciplines.
Project Management:
- Manage mechanical engineering support services during the bidding phase, including the preparation of addenda and bid tabulations.
- Oversee mechanical engineering construction phase services, representing the firm on-site, addressing RFIs, reviewing shop drawings, and preparing record drawings.
- Collaborate with building commissioning services as necessary.
Team Leadership:
- Mentor and guide the professional development of mechanical engineering staff.
- Assist in the presentation of projects to clients, contractors, and stakeholders throughout all project phases.
- Actively contribute to company marketing and business development efforts.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program in Mechanical Engineering or related fields.
- Licensed Professional Engineer in at least one US state, with preference for local jurisdiction licensure.
- 8-15 years of relevant design experience in a leadership capacity within a Mechanical Engineering firm or multi-disciplinary A&E firm.
Skills and Abilities:
- Proficient in current software applications for documentation and project management.
- Strong communication skills for effective presentations and client interactions.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams and foster a collaborative work environment.
Work Environment:
This role is primarily office-based, requiring occasional site visits. The company promotes a flexible work schedule to support work-life balance while encouraging collaboration and mentorship.
