Senior Hadoop Engineer
Work Location: Remote

Overview: This role is part of an enterprise initiative focusing on the "Smartbot project," which integrates Python and Hadoop development. Candidates should possess proficiency in both areas.

A Hadoop Engineer is tasked with the architecture, development, and management of systems designed to handle substantial data volumes. Typically, Hadoop Engineers come from a software development background, holding degrees in fields such as information systems, software engineering, computer science, or mathematics.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop code for moderately complex system architectures. Create programs that operate across various platforms. Design and implement Application Programming Interfaces (APIs).
  • Enhance existing applications or develop new software solutions.
  • Review and provide feedback on code produced by fellow engineers.
  • Contribute to and advocate for programming standards.
  • Draft comprehensive technical specifications for subsystems and identify integration points.
  • Identify and report missing elements in system and functional requirements, explaining their impacts to team members.
  • Collaborate with other engineers, business analysts, systems analysts, project managers, and vendors.
  • Estimate time and resources required for programming tasks, seeking input from peers on these estimates.
  • Conduct unit testing and debugging, establishing test conditions based on code specifications, and collaborating with team members to resolve complex issues.
  • Support the transition of applications throughout the product development lifecycle, documenting necessary migration details.
  • Research and analyze vendor products and alternatives, conducting gap analyses and comparisons.
  • Ensure compliance with IT controls and corporate practices to safeguard the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of applications and data.
  • Note that the responsibilities listed are the primary duties of this position; additional tasks may be assigned as needed.
Job Requirements:
  • Experience with unit testing, release procedures, coding design, documentation protocols, and change management.
  • Proficiency in version control tools.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of IT domains and computer systems.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Capability to manage tasks independently and take ownership of responsibilities.
  • Willingness to learn from feedback and improve performance.
  • Demonstrated initiative and independent decision-making abilities.
  • Effective communication of technical information.
  • Adaptability to a fast-paced and evolving environment.
  • In-depth understanding of the systems development lifecycle.
  • Proficiency in multiple object-oriented programming languages.
  • Familiarity with standard desktop applications, including MS Suite and flowcharting tools like Visio.
  • Experience with debugging tools.
  • High-level critical thinking skills to evaluate options and propose solutions aligned with business objectives.
  • Strong expertise in Python and Natural Language Processing (NLP).
  • Extensive experience with MongoDB and PostgreSQL databases.
