Field Service Engineer
Job Overview

The Field Service Engineer is responsible for the installation and maintenance of industrial heat treating machinery, which includes systems for aluminum heat treatment, solution heat treating, aging processes, and various furnace types (Thermal Process). This role also encompasses the management of process atmospheres, CAB Brazing, and aluminum reverb melting and holding systems.

Key Responsibilities

On-Site Installations:

- Set up, calibrate, troubleshoot, and rectify issues that arise during the installation, operation, and maintenance of heat processing equipment.
- Collaborate with clients or supervisors to strategize the layout of equipment.
- Analyze blueprints, schematics, manuals, and other specifications to ascertain installation protocols.
- Oversee or execute the installation of equipment in accordance with established specifications.
- Operate systems to demonstrate functionality and diagnose malfunctions.

- Interpret maintenance manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams to repair equipment, leveraging knowledge of electronics and utilizing standard testing instruments and hand tools.
- Guide and instruct team members in the servicing and repair of equipment.
- Work with engineering teams to troubleshoot operational and maintenance challenges.
- Potentially educate team members on mechanical and electronic principles.
- May supervise team members in testing, tuning, and optimizing equipment for peak performance.
- Provide insights to management regarding customer satisfaction, product performance, and recommendations for enhancements.

- Conduct troubleshooting and modifications of relay and instrumentation circuits.
- Comprehend atmosphere systems and processes, analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve issues.
- Perform setups and adjustments of systems, identifying deficiencies and implementing corrections.
- Determine and initiate optimal installation and startup procedures for projects.
- Execute the above responsibilities with minimal assistance from the Engineering Department.
- Advocate for safe and efficient equipment operations.
- Monitor, manage, and report on field-related costs.
- Ensure all safety signage is appropriately displayed during installations.
- Confirm that team members complete necessary permitting requirements before entering confined spaces.
- Undertake additional job-related tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

- A college degree in engineering or equivalent military/trade school training or experience.
- Proven experience in field service installation and troubleshooting.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate across various functions and organizational levels.
- Strong customer-oriented mindset with excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Comprehensive knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems.
- Proficient in using personal computers and relevant software applications.
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair various heat treating systems at the component level.
- Capable of prioritizing and managing multiple tasks simultaneously with minimal supervision.
- Team-oriented with a positive attitude and the ability to work collaboratively.
- Flexibility to adapt to a fast-paced work environment.
- Detail-oriented with a focus on quality.

Environmental Considerations

- The role involves routine bending and lifting (20–50 pounds) and manipulating heavier equipment with assistance.
- Extensive travel may be required, potentially up to 90% of the time, including trips to various regions.
