About the Role

As an Assistant Nurse Manager at Hackensack Meridian Health, you will play a vital role in supporting the execution of our nursing strategic plan and priorities. This is a dynamic position that requires a skilled communicator, collaborator, and authentic leader who can effectively coordinate staffing, support throughput, quality and safety outcomes, staff competency, hiring, clinical and staff corrective actions, unit efficiency, quality care, and other departmental activities to support our mission, vision, and values.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in recruitment and retention strategies to attract and retain top talent.
  • Assist with unit huddles and leader rounding with employees to foster a culture of connection and collaboration.
  • Participate in unit goal creation that reflects hospital goals and our mission and vision.
  • Participate or lead evidenced-based practice projects or research to drive quality and safety outcomes.
  • Participate or lead unit-based or hospital-based shared governance committees or councils to promote a culture of excellence.
  • Resolve conflicts and facilitate constructive resolutions and positive outcomes.
  • Complete employee corrective action plans/counseling as necessary.
  • Adhere to HMH Organizational and Managerial competencies and standards of behavior.
  • Prepare and conduct periodic performance evaluations to assigned staff members.
  • Contribute to and/or monitor the unit orientation process of all roles as necessary.
  • Participate in and model the importance of employee recognition.
  • Model cultural competence, social justice, and fairness, and capitalize on generational diversity to foster highly effective work groups.
  • Escalate nursing labor/management issues as necessary.
  • Collaborate with the Nurse Manager for efficient fiscal management of departmental activities to ensure proper utilization of hospital resources.
  • Participate in Payroll, Staff Scheduling, and daily staffing needs.
  • Assist in the management of the department budget and monitor business intelligence for the unit.
  • Maximize care efficiency and throughput.
  • Understand the relationship between value-based purchasing and quality outcomes with revenue and reimbursement.
  • Monitor unit staffing productivity and flex staff accordingly.
  • Optimize the patient and family experience of care.
  • Lead Multidisciplinary Rounds.
  • Ensure unit-based performance improvement monitoring is completed, trended, and reported internal and external to the unit.
  • Lead or participate in quality improvement projects.
  • Lead or conduct root cause analysis investigations.
  • Assure unit regulatory compliance.
  • Participate in staff education and competency.
  • Serve as a role model to others and mentor new employees and new Charge RNs.
