Job Overview

MCNC is seeking a highly skilled Network Automation Engineer to join our Network Management Team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for applying your network management and automation skills to support the North Carolina Research and Education Network (NCREN).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and/or participate in the support and upkeep of network management and automation tools used to monitor, manage, and measure NCREN.
  • Lead and/or participate in proof-of-concept labs and the evaluation of new network management and automation tools and technologies.
  • Develop and implement network management and automation tools for use in monitoring, managing, and measuring NCREN.
  • Adopt and customize new network management and automation tools to monitor, manage, measure, and automate NCREN.
  • Support and upkeep of MCNC's network testing and integration lab's network management and automation tools.
  • Participate in network capacity planning activities.
  • Prepare and maintain network utilization and performance reports.
  • Represent MCNC at Research & Education focused events as required.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in data networking with the most recent 5+ years focused on network automation and management.
  • Extensive experience applying network automation and management skills in large-scale data network environments.
  • Subject matter expert in one or more of the following technologies: Network DevOps, Ansible, Python 3, IDEs, Git, YAML, YANG, NETCONF, RESTCONF, and/or RESTful APIs.
  • Strong Linux system administration skills with a focus on network management and automation.
  • Extensive experience interacting with one or more of the following technologies in a Network Management/Network Automation context: TCP/IP, IPv4/IPv6, Carrier Ethernet, Routing, Switching, EoMPLS, VPLS, MPLS Layer 3 VPN, Segment Routing, EVPN, BGP EVPN VXLAN, SD-WAN, BGP, IS-IS, OSPF, QoS, GRE, IPSec, etc.
