Job Overview

Position Summary:

The CNC Machining Specialist is responsible for executing precision machining tasks and ensuring that production goals are met efficiently. This role emphasizes the importance of quality and safety, fostering a culture of continuous improvement within a world-class manufacturing environment. This is a first shift role.

Key Responsibilities:

The following duties are essential to the role. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as the manufacturing facility evolves:

  • Operate CNC machinery in a safe and effective manner.
  • Utilize collision avoidance features on machines when applicable before running programs.
  • Verify tooling, setups, program coordinates, and other relevant information to guarantee high-quality output.
  • Make necessary adjustments by editing programs as required.
  • Document any changes or corrections in the control system.
  • Communicate promptly about production issues that could impact quality, delivery, or customer satisfaction.
  • Propose enhancements to programs to reduce cycle times.
  • Evaluate tooling, setups, and processes, providing recommendations for improvements.
  • Interpret and analyze manufacturing drawings to categorize them by part type and thickness.
  • Handle heavy components using overhead cranes and appropriate rigging techniques.
  • Load, unload, and position workpieces in fixtures, ensuring compliance with dimensional specifications using fixed gauges and calipers.
  • Remain vigilant to identify any machining irregularities.
  • Troubleshoot material-related issues as they occur.
  • Collaborate with team members to share insights and enhance operations, supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Engage in ongoing training and professional development.
  • Other tasks may be assigned as departmental needs change.

Work Environment:

Regular attendance is expected, with flexibility to address troubleshooting challenges. The position is primarily based on the shop floor, where exposure to noise, dust, and fumes may occur.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to stand for extended periods, typically 8+ hours a day, and engage in machining activities. Visual acuity and manual dexterity for computer tasks are essential.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED, or equivalent experience.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in CNC operations, particularly with milling and turning using FANUC controls.
  • Familiarity with Okuma OSP systems.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree or certification from an accredited technical institution.
  • Background in equipment manufacturing.
  • Mechanical aptitude and understanding of mechanical systems.
