Key Responsibilities
  • Pre-Anesthesia Assessment and Case Preparation
    • Conduct thorough pre-anesthesia assessments to identify potential risks and develop a plan for anesthesia care.
    • Review medical history, including anesthesia, drug, and allergy history.
    • Perform focused physical examinations to assess the patient's overall health.
  • Plan for Anesthesia Care
    • Obtain informed consent from patients and their families.
    • Collaborate with attending anesthesiologists to develop a plan for anesthesia care, including general, regional, combined, local, and sedation techniques.
    • Anticipate key procedures and ensure an anesthesia environment is prepared to carry out the anesthetic plan.
    • Order and administer pre-anesthetic medications and fluids.
  • Intra-Operative Assessment
    • Select, apply, and insert non-invasive and invasive monitoring devices.
    • Select and administer anesthesia, sedation, adjuncts, and accessory drugs and fluids.
    • Manage patient airway and pulmonary status.
    • Demonstrate understanding of relevant clinical issues, recognize priorities in clinical situations, and be aware of own limits.
    • Maintain effective communication with the team, including intraoperative personnel and attending anesthesiologists.
    • Facilitate emergence and recovery from anesthesia and transport to the recovery area, providing a thorough report to the receiving unit in a timely manner.
  • Post-Anesthesia Evaluation and Management
    • Implement acute and chronic pain management.
    • Perform and document timely post-anesthesia evaluation and discharge patients from the recovery area when appropriate.
    • Provide a complete report of the patient's anesthetic course and any pertinent information necessary to accurately transfer care of the patient.
    • Facilitate room turnover in a timely fashion, including room, medicine, and equipment preparation, pre-op assessment.
Requirements
  • Completion of a Nurse Anesthesia program approved by the MD Board of Nursing.
  • Current MD State RN and CRNA license required.
  • Credentialing prior to start date is required.
