Pediatric CRNA Job Description

The Department of Anesthesia & Critical Care Medicine at Johns Hopkins University is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Pediatric CRNA to join our team. As a Pediatric CRNA, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality anesthesia care to pediatric patients undergoing surgical procedures.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Administer intravenous, inhalation, and other anesthetics to patients in an operating room
  • Observe the physiological condition of patients while under anesthesia
  • Evaluate each assigned patient's physical state and plan the course of anesthesia
  • Obtain, assemble, operate, and/or monitor anesthesia equipment
  • Ensure that all necessary supplies, drugs, and anesthetic agents are available
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Independently research new/unknown procedures, diseases, medications, and equipment functions within safe parameters for quality/good patient care
  • Seek assistance from attending anesthesiologist when appropriate
  • Use critical thinking skills and adapt to changes as necessary
  • Apply knowledge of pre-op, intra-op, and post-op in an effective manner under normal conditions and under emergency conditions demonstrate technical competence
  • Employ dexterity when performing anesthetic procedures
Pre-anesthesia Assessment & Case Preparation:
  • Perform and document timely pre-anesthesia assessments
  • Review of medical history (including anesthesia, drug, and allergy history)
  • Focused physical examination (heart, lungs, airway, ASA classification)
  • Plan for Anesthesia Care
Intra-operative Assessment:
  • Select, apply, and insert non-invasive and invasive monitoring devices
  • Select and administer anesthesia, sedation, adjuncts, and accessory drugs and fluids
  • Manage patient airway and pulmonary status
Post Anesthesia Evaluation & Management:
  • Implement acute and chronic pain management
  • Perform and document timely post-anesthesia evaluation and discharge patient from recovery area when appropriate
Requirements:
  • Completion of a Nurse Anesthesia program approved by MD Board of Nursing
  • Current MD State RN and CRNA license required
  • Current CPR certification, ACLS required
