Job Summary

As a Mechanical Engineer with the U.S. Pacific Fleet, Commander in Chief, you will play a critical role in the overhaul, repair, and alteration of surface ship and submarine fluid/mechanical systems. Your expertise will be utilized to conduct independent engineering studies, investigations, and research and analysis for the solution of unusual or unprecedented engineering problems or in support of engineering projects and Departures from Specifications (DFS).

Responsibilities
  • Perform engineering duties in connection with the overhaul, repair, and alteration of surface ship and submarine fluid/mechanical systems, specializing in the area of inside machine shop component repairs.
  • Conduct independent engineering studies, investigations, and research and analysis for the solution of unusual or unprecedented engineering problems or in support of engineering projects and Departures from Specifications (DFS).
  • Serve as subject matter expert/lead project Trouble Desk engineer for the branch resolving technical and non-technical issues.
  • Plan and develop engineering technical work documents to support repair and maintenance of ship systems and components.
  • Interface with various activities, production shops, and ship's force to coordinate and develop plans for these repairs.
  • Review contractor work specifications and other contractual documents for technical adequacy and provide government oversight to ensure naval requirements are met.
  • Serve as one of the principal engineering advisors to the Section Supervisor and/or Branch Head in matters pertaining to engineering work in the technical areas.
Requirements

In addition to the basic requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional Engineer developing technical work documents and providing technical direction for submarine and surface ship mechanical systems to ensure adherence to shipyard processes, operations and engineering standards; implementing shipyard inside machine shop processes for the repair of ship components.
