As an Emergency Department (ED) Registered Nurse (RN), your responsibilities will include planning, executing, assessing, and documenting nursing care for assigned patients.

You will evaluate patients upon their arrival at the emergency center and deliver comprehensive nursing care throughout their stay.

  • Assess patients to identify their complaints and the severity of their conditions.
  • Conduct and document thorough patient assessments.
  • Evaluate and document the educational and psychosocial needs of patients and their families, making appropriate referrals as necessary.
  • Communicate any changes in patient conditions to the supervising physician.
  • Administer and document medications accurately.
  • Relay patient needs to the relevant hospital personnel.
  • Provide detailed inter-shift reports.
Qualifications
Experience
  • Minimum of 1 year of clinical nursing experience as a Registered Nurse (RN) in an Emergency Department setting.
  • Experience as a Patient Care Technician in an acute care environment or a capstone rotation in healthcare facilities is preferred.
Education
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred.
*Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited nursing program.
  • Current enrollment in an Alternate Entry Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) program.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Current State of Texas Registered Nurse (RN) license or Compact Registered Nursing License (Texas license must be obtained within 90 days of hire if using a Compact License).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification as per St. David's Healthcare policy.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) or Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification required within 6 months of hire.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENCP) certification required within 24 months of hire.
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification required within 24 months of hire.
  • National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required within 12 months of hire.
St. David's Medical Center is a comprehensive healthcare facility located in central Austin, Texas, featuring over 300 beds, a 24-hour emergency department, the region's largest Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), and the renowned Texas Cardiac Arrhythmia Institute, along with the St. David's Neuroscience & Spine Institute.
