Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Dental Hygiene Specialist to join our team at the Ponca Tribe of Nebraska. As a key member of our dental services department, you will be responsible for providing advanced prophylactic and preventative dental procedures to patients with various oral health issues.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Perform advanced prophylactic and preventative dental procedures, including administering local anesthesia under the direct supervision of a dentist.
  2. Record medical and dental histories, review patient dietary habits, and administer caries prevention agents.
  3. Plan, coordinate, and conduct community-based dental prevention programs.
  4. Develop and present oral health lectures, demonstrations, and visual displays to targeted populations.
  5. Provide in-service training to staff and develop procedural instructions for clinic staff in the delivery of oral health care to patients.
  6. Proctor dental hygiene students from local dental hygiene programs.
  7. Regularly attend clinic and dental staff meetings to make improvements in the oral hygiene program.

Requirements:

  1. Currently licensed to practice as a dental hygienist and licensed to administer local anesthetic in any state or territory of the United States.
  2. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  3. Ability to work independently.
  4. Knowledge of or willingness to learn Dentrix and additional dental software applications.
  5. Valid driver's license and insurability.
  6. Pass drug and alcohol testing, motor vehicle, education, character, and criminal background checks.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. One or more years' experience working with Native Americans or Native American organizations.
  2. One or more years' experience as a professional dental hygienist in any state or US territory.
  3. Knowledge and understanding of Public Law 93-638: Indian Self Determination Act.
