Job Summary

The City of Grand Prairie, TX is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual to fill the Detention Officer position. As a Detention Officer, you will play a critical role in maintaining the safety and security of the jail facility and its inmates.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform administrative, clerical, and manual duties associated with the detention of prisoners.
  • Monitor prisoner status and behavior, and take physical action to prevent escapes and/or assaults.
  • Escort prisoners from one area to another, and process prisoners using established book-in/release procedures.
  • Read, comprehend, and write in English, and fingerprint, photograph, handcuff, and physically search prisoners.
  • Count money and inventory property, and accurately complete prisoner paperwork, including arrest reports and medical histories.
  • Read, interpret, and apply laws, regulations, and departmental policies and procedures.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma/GED, plus one year experience working with the public.
  • EMT/paramedic experience highly preferred, but not required.
  • Valid Texas class C driver's license.
  • Typing (25 wpm) and computer skills.
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend English.
