Position Summary:
The Cultivation Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the cultivation department's daily functions, reporting directly to the Director of Cultivation. This role is crucial in ensuring that all cultivation activities align with the facility's operational needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the overall operations and business functions of the cultivation sector.
- Develop and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) and policies to enhance cultivation processes while ensuring compliance with regulations.
- Monitor environmental conditions and HVAC systems to mitigate risks of crop loss.
- Coordinate various cultivation tasks, including plant selection, manual watering, pruning, and sanitation, as directed by the Director of Cultivation.
- Supervise all aspects of cultivation as required.
- Collaborate with facility leadership to create and implement the production schedule.
- Maintain inventory levels in accordance with the cultivation timeline and sales projections.
- Work with Data Analytics to gather growth and environmental data for improving cultivation techniques.
- Apply Lean Manufacturing principles, including Six Sigma, to enhance product quality and operational efficiency.
- Manage departmental budgets and prepare performance reports for cultivation leadership.
- Utilize key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess and optimize operational performance.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards by partnering with the Compliance team.
- Lead and mentor cultivation staff, conducting pre-shift meetings and assigning tasks.
- Evaluate employee performance, addressing any issues and providing necessary coaching.
- Collaborate with Human Resources to meet staffing requirements.
- Conduct candidate interviews and make recommendations for hiring decisions.
- Provide input on personnel matters, including hiring and promotions, in conjunction with Human Resources and the Director of Cultivation.
- Utilize internal tracking systems to maintain product consistency and quality control.
- Foster a workplace culture that aligns with the company's mission and values.
- Engage with all team members inclusively to support company strategies and retention efforts.
- Build credibility across the organization as a collaborative problem solver.
- Stay informed on industry regulations and best practices through continuous education and networking.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of three years in management or leadership roles.
- In-depth knowledge of cannabis cultivation practices, including organic methods and horticulture.
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to drive change.
- Proven ability to deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be at least 21 years old and able to register with the state's cannabis commission.
- Compliance with all industry regulations is mandatory.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in plant science, biology, agricultural sciences, or a related field.
- Experience in operations or performance improvement is advantageous.
- Previous work in a regulated manufacturing or packaging environment is a plus.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
This position requires the ability to remain stationary, communicate effectively, and handle objects weighing up to 50 lbs. The employee must be comfortable working at heights and in varying environmental conditions.
Work Environment:
The role is based in a warehouse setting, with occasional exposure to mechanical parts and moderate noise levels.
