Position Overview:

The Financial Controller will oversee all financial and accounting operations within the division. Key responsibilities include:
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Grain and Commodity Trade accounting practices, including mark-to-market valuations, inventory management, billing, and receivables.
  • Expertise in component cost accounting specific to manufacturing.
  • Management of daily accounting operations, including grain accounting, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and inventory oversight.
  • Directing the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
  • Reconciling margin forecasts with actual profit and loss results, providing insights to revenue managers on discrepancies.
  • Compiling mid-month and end-of-month gross margin and consolidated forecasts.
  • Ensuring monthly reconciliation of balance sheet accounts with appropriate documentation.
  • Coordinating the annual budgeting process.
  • Delivering regular contract and pricing audit reports to grain merchandisers for review.
  • Conducting routine gross margin analysis for the feed-mill team.
  • Overseeing capital expenditure accounting, including project cost estimates, depreciation rate settings, and monitoring of construction progress.
  • Leading the accounting and administrative team by managing daily tasks, conducting meetings, and ensuring adherence to HR policies.
  • Presenting financial and analytical reports to division leadership and corporate executives.
  • Promoting a culture of safety by adhering to safety protocols and ensuring a secure working environment.
  • Reviewing all administrative and accounting functions to recommend process improvements.
  • Implementing robust internal control procedures for all business activities.
  • Assisting with annual audits as required by corporate directives.
  • Ensuring compliance with external regulatory agencies, including tax departments and licensing authorities.
  • Managing compliance with UCC/EFS liens on grain purchases from farmers.
  • Supporting the General Manager and executive team with ad hoc reporting and business analysis.
  • Collaborating with IT on system enhancements and technology needs for the division.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in accounting or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in financial leadership and management.
  • Knowledge or experience in the grain and feed industry, particularly with mark-to-market accounting.
  • Strong analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills for interaction with management and team members.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Outlook.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
