About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced CEI Roadway Inspector to join our Transportation team in Wilmington, North Carolina. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for overseeing and inspecting transportation projects to ensure contractor compliance with contracts, plans, and specifications.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Observe and inspect various contractor operations, including earthmoving, paving, bridge construction, and traffic control.
  • Prepare detailed material reports, daily diaries, and field books.
  • Conduct project-related calculations and documentation.
  • Inspect erosion control devices and verify line and grade using survey equipment.
  • Perform DBE and EEO compliance surveys.
  • Attend meetings and interact with third-party construction personnel.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma/GED and 2+ years of highway-related construction or inspection experience.
  • 2-year technical degree or higher in Civil Engineering Technology or Surveying Technology with 1 year of highway-related construction experience.
  • At least two (2) active NCDOT-based certification: QMS Roadway/Conventional Density/Concrete Field Technician/Erosion Control Level II and/or Nuclear Gauge.
  • Strong communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing) using the English language.
  • Ability to complete data entry into multiple software applications on a smart device.
  • Good math skills with a basic understanding of weight, volume, pressure, and units of measure.
Physical Demands:
  • Standing up to 8 hours a day, up to 12 hours on occasion.
  • Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs, (field/laboratory samples and equipment).
  • Maneuver field equipment safely, such as a loaded wheelbarrow, on uneven ground and around active construction sites.
  • Working outside of normal business hours when necessary.
