Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Histotechnologist to join our team at Yale New Haven Health. As a Histotechnologist, you will play a critical role in preparing slides from surgical and autopsy materials for examination by pathologists for diagnosis.

Key Responsibilities
  • Follow all laboratory and hospital safety policies.
  • Operate all department equipment safely and according to manufacturer guidelines.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and troubleshoot instrument failures to best of ability, alerting proper personnel of equipment problems.
  • Follow all department QC procedures and troubleshoot QC failures with proper documentation.
  • Take part in inter and intra-department QA initiatives.
  • Respond to department staffing needs by covering extra shifts when necessary.
  • Maintain technical competency and seek clarification when necessary.
  • Effectively utilize all necessary lab information functions.
  • Assist supervisor in maintaining adequate inventory of reagents and supplies necessary for testing.
  • Meet performance expectations for customer service, teamwork, resource utilization, and staff and self development as outlined in performance review.
Requirements
  • Baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college/university with a combination of 30 semester hours (45 quarter hours) of biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both).
  • Successful completion of a NAACLS accredited histotechnician or histotechnology program within the last five years.
  • At least three years of experience in histological techniques preferred.
  • American Society of Clinical Pathologists (HTL-ASCP) certification preferred.
