Job Summary

The Respiratory Therapist provides comprehensive respiratory care services to patients in various settings, including critical care, general care, and specialty departments. This role requires a strong knowledge base and experience in working with physicians and other healthcare providers to deliver high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provides technical respiratory care procedures, including ventilator management, arterial puncture, and blood gas analysis.
  • Assesses patients for respiratory care needs and reassesses daily or as necessary.
  • Administers inhaled medications and monitors patient reactions.
  • Provides patient and family education on disease processes, therapy, and medication.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary care planning and discharge planning processes.
Clinical Decision-Making

The Respiratory Therapist assimilates large quantities of data while caring for critically ill patients and modifies respiratory care procedures based on acquired data and patient clinical findings.

Policy and Procedure

The Respiratory Therapist understands and complies with departmental policies and procedures to ensure high-quality patient care.

Communication

The Respiratory Therapist provides clear, concise, and organized written and oral communication to management and staff, interacts effectively with physicians, patients, and other healthcare providers, and documents patient information accurately.

Specialized Functions

The Respiratory Therapist performs specialized procedures, including therapeutic and diagnostic bronchoscopy, blood gas analysis, and pulmonary function testing.

Requirements
  • Completion of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
  • Graduate of JRCRTE/CoARC accredited respiratory care program with minimum of three to six months of clinical rotations.
  • Strong leadership ability, good organizational skills, independent and critical thinking skills, sound judgment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Critical Care Experience.
  • ACLS and PALS certifications.
  • Experience in Pulmonary Function testing, bronchoscopies, blood gas analysis, and neonatal mechanical ventilation.
License, Certification & Clearances
  • Current licensure to practice in the State of Pennsylvania.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) approved curriculum of the American Heart Association (CPR and AED) program.
  • Act 33 with renewal, Act 34 with renewal, and Act 73 FBI Clearance.
