Job Summary:

You will work closely with pharmacists and other healthcare professionals to provide exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Greets patients, members, and other healthcare personnel in a caring and helpful manner, initiating service transactions using proper forms and processes.
  2. Refers all inquiries or issues regarding patient-care/consultation to pharmacists.
  3. Inputs patient and prescription information to produce labels and assist in the prescription filling process.
  4. Matches prescriptions with labels and selects the proper drug and quantity to be dispensed.
  5. Prepares adequate supplies of medication for unit dose distribution and processes clinic and hospital drug requisitions.
  6. Assists with and/or provides medication, OTC products, or supplies to patients in a helpful and caring manner.
  7. Picks up and delivers medications and supplies to designated areas or persons per schedule.
  8. Calculates prices for prescriptions or orders, sells non-prescription drugs, and collects cash, checks, or credit card payments for collectible services.
  9. Balances monies, checks, and credit card charge documents daily against cash register receipts and prepares bank deposits.
  10. Gathers and computes data and information for various needs pertaining to health plans, non-plans, special, and routine reports, studies, and statistics.
  11. Maintains accurate OTC charge schedules and price lists, adjusts changes, and orders routine bank supplies for the cashiering area.
  12. Assures all equipment in the cashiering area is operating in an acceptable manner and advises supervisors of any malfunctions or reports them to the appropriate service company.
  13. Maintains an appropriate level of drugs and supplies for operations, orders, receives, stores, returns, credits, and discards drugs and supplies.
  14. Packs, compounds, reconstitutes, and distributes inventory for issue, transfer, or dispensing.
  15. Files prescriptions and any transaction documents of pharmacy operations timely and appropriately.
  16. Accepts responsibility for resolving immediate problems and accomplishing assigned tasks and reporting irregularities.
  17. Inspects and maintains the work area and equipment in an organized, clean, safe, and efficient working condition.
  18. Observes and complies with departmental policies and procedures and organizational house rules, such as safety, attendance, proper attire, and continuing education.
  19. Coordinates and answers incoming phone calls, handling or directing them to the appropriate individuals.
Requirements:
  • Previous pharmacy experience or enrollment in a pharmacy technician training program.
  • High school diploma or equivalent related experience.
  • Pharmacy Technician Certificate from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board.
  • Demonstrated ability to safely handle and/or prepare compounds such as chemotherapeutic agents, biologicals, or other medications.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in adaptability, customer service, oral communication, multi-tasking, teamwork, and written communication.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in word processing, spreadsheet, and database PC applications.
  • Talking to co-workers, customers, outside vendors, and on the telephone.
  • Reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English.
  • Training/giving and receiving instructions.
  • Mathematical ability, attention to detail (e.g., organization, prioritization, proofing), concentration, and alertness.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Completion of a pharmacy technician training program.
  • Post-high school coursework training.
