Pharmacy Technician

As a Pharmacy Technician at Kaiser Permanente, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our pharmacy services. Your primary responsibilities will include filling, packaging, and providing medication to patients, as well as performing various clerical duties. You will work closely with pharmacists to ensure accurate and timely dispensing of medications. Additionally, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate records, processing prescriptions, and handling cash transactions. Key Responsibilities:
• Greet patients and members in a caring and helpful manner, initiating service transactions using proper forms and processes.
• Refer all inquiries or issues regarding patient-care/consultation to pharmacists.
• Input patient and prescription information to produce labels and assist in the prescription filling process.
• Match prescriptions with labels and select the proper drug and quantity to be dispensed.
• Prepare adequate supplies of medication for unit dose distribution and process clinic and hospital drug requisitions.
• Assist with and/or provide medication, OTC products, or supplies to patients in a helpful and caring manner.
• Collect money if needed and pick-up and deliver medications and supplies to designated areas or persons per schedule.
• Calculate prices for prescriptions or orders, sell non-prescription drugs, and collect cash, check, or credit card payments for all collectible services.
• Balance monies, checks, and credit card charge documents daily against cash register receipts and reconcile any discrepancies.
• Gather and compute data and information for various needs pertaining to health plans, non-plans, special, and routine reports, studies, and statistics as necessary.
• Maintain accurate OTC charge schedules and price lists, adjust changes, and order routine bank supplies for the cashiering area.
• Ensure all equipment in the cashiering area is operating in an acceptable manner and advise supervisors of any malfunctions or report them to the appropriate service company.
• Maintain an appropriate level of drugs and supplies for operations, order, receive, store, return, credit, and discard drugs and supplies, and pack, compound, reconstitute, and distribute inventory for issue, transfer, or dispensing.
• File prescriptions and any transaction documents of pharmacy operations timely and appropriately, accept responsibility for resolving immediate problems and accomplishing assigned tasks and reporting irregularities, and inspect and maintain work areas and equipment in organized, clean, safe, and efficient working conditions.
• Observe and comply with departmental policies and procedures and organizational house rules such as but not limited to safety, attendance, proper attire, and continuing education.
• Coordinate and answer incoming phone calls, handle or direct calls to appropriate individuals, and maintain confidentiality of patient information.
Requirements:
• Previous pharmacy experience required or in a pharmacy technician training program.
• High school diploma or equivalent related experience.
• Pharmacy Technician Certificate from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board.
• Demonstrated ability to safely handle and/or prepare compounds such as chemotherapeutic agents, biologicals, or other medications.
• Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in adaptability, customer service, oral communication, multi-tasking, teamwork, and written communication.
• Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in word processing, spreadsheet, and database PC applications.
• Talking to co-workers, customers, outside vendors, and on the telephone.
• Reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English.
• Training/giving and receiving instructions.
• Mathematical ability, attention to detail (e.g., organization, prioritization, proofing), concentration, and alertness.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Completion of a pharmacy technician training program.
• Post-high school coursework training.
