Job Summary:

UPMC Hamot, a Magnet designated facility, is seeking a skilled Clinician to join its 7 South Oncology unit. As a nurse leader, you will be responsible for fostering a culture of excellence in patient care and serving as a role model for professional nursing practice.

Responsibilities:

• Build productive working relationships with colleagues and external partners through mentoring, positive communication, and team building.

• Coach colleagues on cultural diversity and address workplace issues like horizontal violence and impairment.

• Demonstrate accountability for safe work hours, time management, and healthy lifestyles.

• Utilize performance improvement tools to enhance care quality and work environment, sharing improvements across units.

• Actively mentor and educate others, serving as a preceptor and fostering continuous learning.

• Integrate organizational and system goals to improve patient safety, quality, and satisfaction.

• Share new knowledge through presentations, posters, and publications.

• Apply nursing knowledge within the framework of Relationship-Based Care, addressing clinical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs.

• Demonstrate critical thinking and effective communication to support patient care and coordination among providers.

• Lead clinical nursing practice improvements and support staff through change processes.

• Participate in shared leadership and assume formal roles in quality improvement, evidence-based practice, or onboarding.

• Assist with or complete staff performance evaluations as needed.

Requirements:

• Minimum 3 years of nursing experience.

• Master's degree preferred. BS/BSN required; if BS degree is not in nursing, a master's or higher degree in Nursing is required.

• Demonstrated competence as a Professional Staff Nurse. Must demonstrate knowledge and skills to provide appropriate care for patients of all ages, understanding principles of growth and development over the lifespan.

• Ability to assess patient data, interpret information, and address age-specific needs as per department policy and procedures.

• Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, and patients/families.

• Ability to work effectively in a complex environment, managing multiple priorities and specialized equipment.

• Exemplary clinical judgment with critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

• Critical thinking skills required for leading others in applying the nursing process.

• Requires mobility, visual manual dexterity, and physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within one year of hire or transfer.

• Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire

• NIH Stroke Scale (NIH) within 6 months of hire or transfer.

• Registered Nurse (RN)

• Act 34

• Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
