The Anatomic Pathology Technician plays a crucial role in the laboratory team at WakeMed, responsible for the processing and allocation of laboratory specimens and orders from various sources. This position requires attention to detail and organizational skills to ensure accurate registration of specimens and efficient laboratory workflow.
Key Responsibilities- Verify patient and specimen identification, as well as the appropriateness of specimens and accompanying orders.
- Process non-gynecological and gynecological specimens for microscopic review and prepare tissue specimens for examination and diagnosis.
- Prepare frozen sections for the Pathologist and assist with renal biopsies and fine needle aspirate procedures.
- Organize laboratory workflow and prioritize processing and distribution of specimens.
- Utilize equipment, instruments, and computer systems to test, request, accession, label, and deliver specimens appropriately.
- Perform and document routine maintenance and quality control procedures on specified equipment and troubleshoot as needed.
- 1 year of related position experience required.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
- Not applicable for licensure/certification requirements.
Monday to Friday, 6 am - 2:30 pm. No weekend or call requirements.
